9 great Texas hiking locations you should try this year

I know this one is a bit of drive from San Antonio to get to but there’s way to much to do not to mention it. There over 1 million acres of public land with hiking, camping horse riding, bicycling, river running and abundant sightseeing. Try and get to this one before the heat really sets in folks.

Hiking Location #2 Mcallister Park

Mcallister Park is one of my favorite places to take the kids exploring. This par has a natural area with jogging and biking trails, picnic spots, a dog park, playcapes and athletic fields.

It’s just quick drive from most areas in San Antonio off Wurzbach Parkway. You will hardly notice you are in the city.

Hiking Location #3 Comanche Lookout Park

Comanche Lookout Park is another solid contender for the whole family. This one is located just off Nacogdoches rd with access from both Judson Rd and Nacogdoches.

The park has scenic trails throughout, a vantage point to view downtown San Antonio, playground and picnicking areas.

Hiking Location #4 Cedar Flats Trail at Eisenhower Park

Are you looking for incredible view’s of San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country? Cedar Flats Trail at Eisenhower Park is located just East of I-10 and north of Loop 1604.

Hiking Location #5 Enchanted Rock State Park

Enchanted Rock State Park is certainly a site to see. 11 miles of hiking trails await you! I do recommend you reserve a spot in advance especially on the weekend. They have capacity limits and fill up daily.

Hiking Location #6 Garner State Park

Garner State Park is another great option. There are 11 miles of of hiking trails and access to the Frio River.

Hiking Location #7 Friedrich Wilderness Park

If you’re looking for another easy drive to gorgeous views. Friedrich Wilderness Park fits the bill. It’s located just north of Loop 1604 and west of IH-10.

Hiking Location #8 Government Canyon State Natural Area

Government Canyon State Natural Area is another wonderful San Antonio nature area. There are 10 miles of trails with various degrees of difficulty, dinosaur tracks for the kids and camping as well. You will want to call ahead here. They do have capacity limits so reservations are a good idea.

Hiking Location #9 San Antonio Missions Hike And Bike Trail

The Missions Hike And Bike Trail is situated along the San Antonio River. This trail connects all five missions in San Antonio: The Alamo, Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. What better way to enjoy a history lesson!
