Outstanding Views You Don’t Want To Miss Visiting San Antonio

Comanche Lookout Park Entry

Today, I want to take you on a tour of one of my family’s favorite parks ‘Comanche Lookout Park’. So if you live in San Antonio or you’re thinking about visiting, this is a do not miss.

Here’s where Comanche Lookout Park Is Located

First up the park is located starting at the corner of Judson and Nacogdoches Road intersection on the west side and it goes a little past Toepperwein Road that dead ends into Nacogdoches Road. The main entry to Comanche Lookout Park is at the dead end of Toepperwein and Nacogdoches

Here’s what to expect at Comanche Lookout Park

Comanche Lookout Park Parking Lot

Next thing to note is a reasonable amount of parking located at the base of the park. After more than 10 years living here I’ve never had a problem parking here. And portable restrooms are located just to our left here as well.

And here’s another shot of the parking lot and entrance.

You have elevation that is pretty nice and it is 96 acres and it is a hill, so it’s pretty imposing. You’ll be able to see it when you drive up on it.

The next thing is you’ll notice is there’s three different levels of difficulty when planing a hike at Comanche Lookout. You have level one, which is beginner; level two, intermediate; level three that’s most advanced.

Comanche Lookout Posted Rules

Like any park there are some rules to keep in mind. Park hours are from 5am-Sunset. No glass containers allowed. No alcoholic beverages in the park. And no motorized vehicles.

Of course you can bring your four legged friend to enjoy the park. I don’t recall a pet waste station at the top of the hill so grab your bags before you go up.

Comanche Lookout Trails And Amenities

This is the main trail leading from the parking lot. Notice all the shade. Every trail throughout the park has plenty of shade all day long.

handy cap access trail

Do you need wheelchair access? No problem. There’s a way up designed for everyone.

Park Bench

Do you need frequent breaks or like to just sit and enjoy? No problem. There’s plenty of areas to stop along the way.

Also there are multiple picnic tables at the top of Comanche Lookout Park. They are on a first come first serve basis but I’ve never had a problem finding an open table. Most of the local people use this park as a place to walk or catch a gorgeous sunrise or sunset.

There’s all sorts of beautiful nature to take in along the way as well.

Comanche Lookout Park Water Fountain

Water break? You might need one. This park is steep!

Views at Comanche Lookout Park

And you have a tower, we call it Comanche Tower. As observation tower there. You get to take pictures of and you won’t be able to go into it, but it is something of interest when people go to this park.

From this bench you can see out towards Live Oak TX and Converse TX.

Concrete Sculptures

Oh! And here are some concrete sculptures by Carlos Cotes and Doroteo Garza ‘Najo Jam’ (Our Home), 2020

Here’s a view from the top towards the north end of the park.

And of course here is the view of down town San Antonio.

Here’s a closer look at that sunset.

One more of that sunset. I just couldn’t help it. I must have taken 20 photos of it in the last minutes.

Library on the other side of Comanche Lookout Park

The west side of the park has a San Antonio Public Library branch ‘Julia Yates Semmes’

Here is the outdoor classroom facility at the library loop trail.

And here is a plaque Identifying the Ewing Halsell Foundation as the donors that made the outdoor classroom possible.

Come on! Get your psychometric workout it in. You know you want it! 🙂

Maybe some seated presses? There’s more but I ran out of time. So you will just have to come and see the rest of the gear.

Does this tour leave you wanting to make a visit? I hope so. It’s a great park with a lot to offer. Sure there’s other parks but this one makes many people happy everyday. See you around town!
